Log when a symptom happened

If you’re trying to get a clearer picture of when your symptoms happen during the day, Bearable gives you two different tools to help: Time Periods and Custom Health Measurements. They work a little differently, so here’s a quick guide to help you pick the right one (or use both!).

Option 1: Time Periods (great for correlations)

Instead of just giving you one entry for the whole day, time Periods split your day into four chunks:

– PRE (midnight–6am)
– AM (6am–midday)
– MID (midday–6pm)
– PM (6pm–midnight)

This is the best option if your main goal is to see same-day correlations between your symptoms and factors (like food, activities, or meds) in the Impacts tab.

How to turn it on:

    1. On your home screen, tap the … icon on the Symptoms section (you can also do this for Other Factors).
    2. Tap Time Periods to toggle it on.
    3. You’ll now be able to log a separate symptom entry for each time period, either from the home screen or your daily check-in.

📝 Note: Time Periods are only available in the Symptoms and Other Factors sections. Other sections either already use timestamps (like Health Measurements) or don’t need time-based tracking (like Sleep or Gratitude).

Option 2: Custom Health Measurements (great for exact timing)

If you want something more precise than “morning” or “evening” – like the exact time a symptom occurred – a custom Health Measurement is the way to go. This lets you log entries with a real timestamp, so you can track things like frequency or patterns down to the minute.

How to set one up:

    1. Tap customise homepage at the bottom of your home screen and make sure Health Measurements is toggled on.
    2. Tap into the Health Measurements section on your home screen.
    3. Tap Add Other, then Create custom measurement.
    4. Give it a name (e.g. “Migraine episodes”), choose a measurement type (like Count, or a 0–10 scale), pick an icon, and save.
    5. From then on, you can log an entry with a timestamp each time the symptom happens.

💡 Custom Health Measurements are a premium feature, so you’ll need a Bearable Pro subscription to set these up.

Which should you use?

    • Want to spot patterns and correlations across your whole day? → Time Periods
    • Want to know the exact time something happened, or track frequency in detail? → Custom Health Measurements
    • Want the best of both → Custom Health Measurements

As always, we’d recommend starting small, pick one or two symptoms that matter most to you right now, rather than trying to track everything at once. You can always add more later.
